Music has been a central part of my family dynamic for as long as I can remember. We were the type of family to always have music playing in the house. I would often wake up to music playing in the kitchen while my Mom or Dad made us all breakfast and music plays at just about every meal we eat. We would frequently have family meals to the soundtrack of Chicago, Supertramp, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, and much more. My parents also have an extensive collection of CD’s and vinyl records that we love to explore as a family. I remember when we all got iPods, my parents spent days converting all of their music to digital form and it was like one big listening party. I could tell it was really fun for them to go through all the music they’ve collected over the years and revisit records they may have forgotten about. I specifically remember being enamored with the album artwork on SEAL’s second album, which includes one of my favorite songs by him, Kiss From a Rose. My mom’s taste in music came more from the late 80s and early 90s, some of her favorite artists being Blondie, Nirvana, and Run D.M.C. My Dad also has some involvement in the music industry. He is an attorney, and he represents Jesse James Dupree who is the lead singer for the Heavy Metal band Jackyl. When I started showing an interest in being in bands and playing rock music, my dad took me to a show of his in Myrtle Beach and gave me the backstage experience. I got to meet the whole band and see what its really like behind the scenes of a rock show, and I was completely enamored. I knew this was something I had to be a part of.
